NEWS – The Union government has launched a major technological push to enhance transparency and efficiency in India’s food security ecosystem. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi unveiled a suite of digital platforms, with the AI-driven ASHA system at the core, aimed at modernising the Public Distribution System (PDS), warehousing, and supply chain operations.
ASHA: AI-BASED FEEDBACK SYSTEM
Key Features
- ASHA (Anna Sahayata Holistic AI Solution) enables beneficiaries to provide direct feedback on ration distribution.
- Uses automated voice calls in beneficiaries’ preferred languages.
- Powered by IndiaAI Mission and Bhashini’s multilingual AI platform.
Coverage
- Initially piloted in 5 states, later expanded to 15 more.
- Target: 20 lakh citizens per month across all 36 states and UTs by March 2026.
Significance
- Enhances citizen participation in PDS reforms.
- Enables timely redressal of grievances through real-time data.
- Promotes transparency and accountability in ration delivery.
Digital Platforms to Modernise Warehousing
- a) Bhandaran 360 – CWC ERP Platform
- A cloud-based system integrating 41 modules across HR, finance, marketing, warehouse and contract management.
- Linked to 35 external systems for seamless coordination across the food storage ecosystem.
- b) Smart EXIM Warehouse
- Automates CWC’s CFC/ICD operations for faster and efficient export–import logistics.
- c) FCI’s Anna Darpan Platform
- A cloud platform integrating grain operations, enhancing monitoring and supply chain visibility.
PDS Cleanup: Removal of Ineligible Beneficiaries
- Centre removed 2.25 crore ineligible ration beneficiaries in the last 4–5 months.
- Reasons included:
- Beneficiaries deceased,
- Those holding company directorships,
- Owners of four-wheelers.
- Ensures that 5 kg free foodgrains reach only genuinely poor households.
