DIGITAL ATTENDANCE SYSTEM
DIGITAL ATTENDANCE SYSTEM
NEWS: The Lok Sabha will roll out a digital attendance system from the Budget Session 2026 to verify and record the physical presence of Members of Parliament inside the House.
Objectives:
- Ensure actual physical presence of MPs
- Improve discipline, transparency, and productivity
- Strictly link attendance with daily allowance
FEATURES
- MPs mark their attendance using biometric thumb verification, so no one else can do it for them.
- Once the House is adjourned, the system automatically closes and attendance cannot be marked later.
- If an MP does not mark attendance during the sitting, they lose their daily allowance, ensuring accountability
SIGNIFICANCE
- Ensures that MPs remain present during proceedings, not just for formality.
- Enhances accuracy, tamper-resistance, and transparency, aligning parliamentary functioning with modern e-governance standards.
- Discourages strategic delays and reinforces the principle that attendance equals participation, not mere appearance.
