About Kavach and Kavach 4.0
- Kavach 4.0à most advanced version of Kavach, India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.
- Aims to achieve zero accidents by preventing train collisions and over-speeding.
- Developerà Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) of Indian Railways developed Kavach.
- It is certified to Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL-4)à the highest global railway signalling safety standard.
- Kavach creates a safety shield through real-time communication between three main components –
- On-board computers and radio units monitor train speed and signal status
- RFID tags installed at regular intervals provide precise location and direction data
- Stationary units relay signal status and track permission through telecom towers.
