NEWS: The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has imported eight black-capped capuchin monkeys (Sapajus apella) from the Induna Primate and Parrot Park in South Africa IUCN: Least Concern
ABOUT
- Areas (Habitat)àOccupies tropical and subtropical forests, dry forests, submontane forests, savannahs, and mangrove ecosystems.
- Native to South America, widely distributed across the Amazon River Basin.
- Use sticks to probe for insects, leaves as sponges, and stones to break open hard-shelled food.
- Arboreal primates spending most of their time in tree canopies
- Communicate through vocalizations and social interactions + Highly intelligent and social monkeys + Advanced problem-solving skills and have shown signs of self-awareness in experiments.

Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP)
- Near Bengaluru city, Karnataka + Previously, it was integral part of Bannerghatta National Park, but later separated in 2004

- BBP includes the valley of the Champakadhama hills within its boundaries
- In 2024, India’s largest leopard safari was inaugurated at BBP
