- The Government of India announced 100 Aspirational Agriculture Districts under PMDDKY across 29 states and UTs.
- Uttar Pradesh leads with 12 districts, followed by Maharashtra (9), Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan (8 each), and Bihar (7).
HIGHLIGHTS
Objectives of PMDDKY
- Enhance agricultural productivity.
- Promote crop diversification and sustainable farming.
- Improve post-harvest storage at panchayat and block level.
- Strengthen irrigation facilities.
- Facilitate short-term and long-term credit.
Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) Framework
- Based on 3 Cs:
- Convergence – Integrating central & state schemes.
- Collaboration – Central & state nodal officers with District Collectors.
- Competition – Monthly delta ranking using 49 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across 5 socio-economic themes:
- Health & Nutrition
- Education
- Agriculture & Water Resources
- Financial Inclusion & Skill Development
- Infrastructure
Selection Criteria for 100 Districts
- Low agricultural productivity.
- Moderate cropping intensity – percentage of gross cropped area to net sown area; all-India average: 155% (2021-22).
- Below-average access to credit.
Implementation & Funding
- 100 Central Nodal Officers (CNOs) appointed for monitoring.
- Implemented through convergence of 36 schemes from 11 departments; maximum 19 schemes from Dept. of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
- Estimated annual work worth ₹24,000 crore across selected districts.
